The Pentagon has released declassified footage of an unidentified flying object (UFO) captured by a US Military MQ-9 Reaper drone in the Middle East in 2022. This footage was presented during a defense update on UFOs to a congressional committee. The video shows a small, spherical object, described as “shimmering”, moving swiftly above buildings and empty fields. The exact location where the footage was shot has not been disclosed by the Pentagon.
Sean Kirkpatrick, the director of the Pentagon’s All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), shared the footage with the Senate Committee on Armed Services. He described the object as “Silver. Translucent. Metallic,” with “no thermal exhausts usually detected.” Kirkpatrick stated that this is essentially all the data available on this event, and the origin or purpose of the UFO remains unknown.
Kirkpatrick emphasized that the Pentagon’s research, conducted by AARO, has not found any credible evidence of extraterrestrial activity, off-world technology, or objects that defy the known laws of physics. He also noted that only a very small percentage of Unexplained Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) reports show characteristics that can be described as ‘anomalous.’ The majority of unidentified objects reported to AARO demonstrate mundane characteristics of balloons, clutter, natural phenomena, or other readily explainable sources.
The release of this footage aligns with the Pentagon’s ongoing review of over 650 UFO incidents, aiming to understand and categorize these occurrences. This initiative indicates a growing interest and effort by government agencies to transparently investigate and understand unexplained aerial phenomena.
